MPlayer for Windows is a is the Windows version of the powerful open source multi-platform media player. MPlayer for Windows handles many file formats, and can play CDs, VCDs and DVDs and also includes powerful video conversion program. The MPlayer for Windows package contains the most recent builds of MPlayer for the Windows platform as well as SMPlayer and MPUI MPlayer for Windows is a handy and simple application which enables users to easily preview their video files.
MPlayer for Windows support over 192 video and 85 audio codecs, which is outstanding by all standards. The fact that it can play some of the most popular formats (AVI, MPEG/VOB, ASF/WMA/WMV, RM, QT/MOV/MP4, Ogg/OGM, MKV, VIVO, FLI, NuppelVideo, yuv4mpeg, FILM and RoQ), you can also use it to watch VCD, DVD, SVCD, Blu−ray, 3ivx, DivX 3/4/5, WMV and even H.264 movies, too.
MPlayer can also use a variety of output driver protocols to display video, including VDPAU, the X video extension, OpenGL, DirectX, Direct3D, Quartz Compositor, VESA, Framebuffer, SDL and rarer ones such as ASCII art (using AAlib and libcaca) and Blinkenlights. It can also be used to display TV from a TV card using the device tv://channel, or play and capture radio channels via radio://channel|frequency.
For maximum performance, the MPlayer for Windows includes optimized builds for different CPU types. Furthermore the Full-Package includes the Binary Codec Package, while the Light-Package does not. MPlayer can be used from the command line (shell). MPlayer has one official graphical interface (GMplayer), however there are several third party graphic interfaces that allow access to some of Mencoder's functionality.
