ExifTool is a powerful command-line based metadata editor for digital media file that can read, write, and edit meta information that is contained in the image, audio and video files. ExifTool supports many different types of metadata including EXIF, GPS, IPTC, XMP, JFIF, GeoTIFF, ICC Profile, Photoshop IRB, FlashPix, AFCP and ID3.

Metadata is defined as data providing information about one or more aspects of the digital media file (data). In its metadata a digital media file may contain means of creation of the file, purpose of the file, time and date of its creation, name of creator or author of the file etc. By using ExifTool command-line or ExifTool with Graphical User Interface, you can easily write new metadata into a digital media file or extract these metatada information and modify them.
