This 3D model generator simply captures the laser lines swept over a object (like a virtual brush) and calculates the depth to create a three dimensional digital replica of that object on the computer.

To create 3D model form objects, all you need to build a 3D model scanner is a PC, a camera (web-cam), a laser that projects a line onto the object you want to scan, and two plain boards placed exact the angle of 90 degree in the background. The object you want to scan has to be put in front of the corner of two boards. The camera has to be pointed towards the object. Simply hold the laser in your hand, and "brush" the laser line over the object. DAVID Laser scanner software will automatically calculate 3D coordinates of the scanned object surface.
You can grab a camera shot that will be used as texture for the 3D model. The texturized 3d model can be inspected in the 3d window. Furthermore DAVID exports texture coordinates, which allows you to import the textured object in third-party software. To obtain a complete 360 degree model of your 3d object, we have developed DAVID-Shapefusion that automatically "puzzles" together the laser scans made from different sides. DAVID 3D Laser scanner allows you to save your scanned object as Alias Wavefront OBJ file. The OBJ-format is an well-established plain text format for triangle meshes and is supported by many 3d applications.
