Fix Broken Spotify Update
The latest version of Spotify desktop client for Windows and Mac has some serious issues that rises the question whether its an upgrade or a downgrade. The popular music streaming service’s desktop client auto update installs a broken version (v1.0.1) of itself with out giving user a choice. Beside the new user interface and MusixMatch lyrics feature, the latest version of Spotify looses some basic functionalities and options which will frustrate any regular Spotify user and make wander how this version passes as a public release.
The new buggy version of Spotify has lists of broken functionalities, there is no Ctrl+F shortcut filter option to search in playlist. When you click the Spotify window’s red X button in the top-right, the program shuts down, instead of minimizing it to system stray. When you click on the album artwork of the song that's playing it doesn't direct you to the playlist or album where it's playing from. In the Options menu; there seem to be a lot of options missing. And the list goes on.

Although Spotify has confirmed that they are fixing these issues in their future release, meanwhile you can download the older version of Spotify client that is working properly and optionally install the beta version (it will install separately) to check the latest official fixes and progress of Spotify client.

How to prevent Spotify forced update:
After downgrading the older version, if constantly it forces you to upgrade to the buggy v1.0 version again you can prevent Spotify’s forced auto update by doing the followings [from Spotify user community]:
Go to C:/Users/<Name>/Appdata/Roaming/Spotify
1. Make a new empy text file
2. Name it Spotify_new.exe
3. Right click the file and make the file read only
4. Make a new empty text file
5. Name it Spotify_new.exe.sig
6. Right click the file and make the file read only
Spotify will not be able to update because it can't delete the files, because they are read only, all future upgrades will fail.
